Services Overview

C-Print:
C-Print- is a speech-to-text
(captioning) system developed at the National Technical
Institute for the Deaf, a college of Rochester Institute
of Technology. The program uses the C-print software
to type at a faster rate using a system of abbreviations.
The program can be tailored to meet the need of the
consumer. For example if the consumer prefers more of
a word for word verbatim rendering of the spoken message,
the captionist can aim to be verbatim. However if the
consumer is not someone whose first language is English
and prefers more of a conceptual, meaning for meaning
transcription, the captionists is trained to provide
that as well. The captionist has also been trained to
avoid such things as meaningless chatter, repetitions
and false starts in the spoken message. After the session
the consumer may chose to download the transcripts onto
a flash drive or receive the notes via email. C-print
works well in educational settings as well as business
and many other community settings.
CART Captioning:
CART (Communication
Access Realtime Translation) is a captioning service
in which all spoken language is "captioned" live for
deaf and hard of hearing consumers. CART can be very
beneficial in such settings as classrooms, conferences,
meetings, religious services, etc. CART captions can
be projected on an overhead for multiple consumers or
may be displayed on a small screen for one consumer.
CART providers type into a stenotype machine using a
system of abbreviations and a specific software that
translates the abbreviations into full, real-time captions.
It is not necessary for the consumer of CART to sit
near the CART provider when done on site. Remote CART
is also available. In a remote situation, the student
or other consumer of CART would log onto a "session"
in which the CART provider would be sharing a screen
with the consumer and be able to caption without being
present.

Audio files can be downloaded and transcribed for a variety of settings including online courses with pre-recorded lectures and can be delivered via email.

We provide certified Sign Language Interpreters for quality interpreting services.
